Dress Code and Good Grooming Policy
Dress Code/Good Grooming Policy for Grades K-8
Both Boys and Girls: Proper dress and personal grooming for both boys and girls at IC-SJ needs to be neat, clean, simple, unobtrusive, and appropriate for the weather and the learning environment. Dyed or highlighted hair cannot be any color beyond natural hair colors. Hair must be trimmed and neat in style.
- Dress pants or slacks may be navy blue or khaki. The navy blue and khaki pants may be purchased from stores other than Dennis Uniforms. No cargo or carpenter pants may be worn. Docker style pants are allowed. Dress style slacks of neat appearance and appropriate waistline may be worn. No metal pieces on pants, shorts, or skorts are allowed. Capri pants may be worn during the seasons that shorts are allowed.
- Shirts/Blouses - Solid colored- white, navy or pastel blue, or red polo shirts may be worn. A plain white, blue, or red long sleeve polo or turtleneck may also be worn. Shirts with the school name by Mona's Originals are in the dress code. Shirts must not have trim, lace, emblems, or logos. Polos may have the following writing on them: IC/St. Joseph School, IC/St. Joseph Basketball, IC/St. Joseph Baseball, etc. Shirts and blouses must be tucked in at all times. Failure to do so warrants detentions.
- Shoes - Tennis shoes, oxfords, or sandals that buckle. No clogs, platform shoes, flip flops, open back shoes, or high heels for safety reasons. Students must have tennis shoes that tie or fasten for gym class ( a separate pair for grades 3-8).
- Stockings/tights - Plain white, red or navy may be worn.
- Hair - Clean and of reasonable length. Hair should be a natural color.
- Sweaters/Vests - Colors are navy blue, white or red. Navy blue, red, and white may be purchased locally or through Dennis Uniforms. Styles are: V-neck cardigan, V-neck pullover or V-neck vest with flat weave; no cable or shaker weave. Fleece jackets for outdoor wear are available through Dennis or Mona's Originals.
- IC-SJ sweatshirts purchased from the Home School Association may be worn. The sweatshirt must be worn with a white, blue, or red uniform shirt underneath with the collar of the shirt showing. Sweatshirts must be the appropriate size for the student.
- Navy blue or khaki uniform shorts/skorts may be purchased from the Dennis Uniform Company, but not required. Navy and khaki shorts and skorts may be purchased elsewhere. Plaid skorts, skirts, and jumpers must be purchased from Dennis Uniform Company. The following are requirements for shorts and skorts:(this is a lower-thigh,walking length style--no shorter than 3 inches above the knee.
- Jewelry: No dangling earrings, large necklaces or bracelets. Jewelry in any visible pierced body parts other than the ear must be removed or covered during the school day. No visible tattoos. No makeup. No jewelry, including any ear rings are allowed in PE classes for safety reasons.
- Students at the IC Center need plain, mesh shorts, separate gym shoes, and a plain or IC-SJ or Don Bosco tee-shirt for each physical education class. Shorts must be of appropriate length. The decision on the appropriateness of length will be at the discretion of the teacher and/or principal. Not having PE clothes can affect a student's grade, including the possibility of failing.
Primary and Intermediate: Boots and snow pants need to be worn from the first snowfall until families are notified by the school. In winter weather, all students are expected to be dressed appropriately and go outdoors for recess unless they have a doctor's excuse. Normally, recess is outdoors unless it is raining or the temperature is below zero.
Consequences for failure to follow dressed:
- Step One: Written Warning
- Step Two: Detention
- Step Three: Administrative action taken
