Description: Immaculate Conception-St. Joseph School is a consolidated Catholic elementary school (K-8) serving the parishes of Immaculate Conception, Gilbertville; St. Joseph, Raymond; students of St. Francis, Barclay, and the surrounding community.
Kindergarten-grade 2 classes are at the Raymond St. Joseph Center; grades 3-8 at the Immaculate Conception Center, Gilbertville, across the plaza from Don Bosco High School.
Mission: The mission of Immaculate Conception-St. Joseph School is to offer a Christ-centered program of academic excellence that assists and supports parents in developing life long learners who give Christian service as productive members of a world community.
Students:
Enrollment total: 287 students
Faculty/student ratio is 1/16.; the average class size is 18; two classrooms of each grade level
Students participate in weekly liturgies and periodically help in planning the celebration
Band program, algebra classes for qualifying eighth graders shared with Don Bosco
Daily hot lunch program available; 10% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch
Students have a uniform dress code
Bus service available in the Waterloo School District attendance area through First Student; two bus routes for those not in the Waterloo district
Computer lab in the Gilbertville media center; Computer/student ratio is 1/5
Faculty and Staff:
Total: 20 certified teachers, all holding at least B.A. or B.S. degrees; 7 hold M.A. degrees
Guidance counselor shared with 2 other Waterloo area Catholic schools
Development Director shared with Don Bosco High School.
Area Education Agency 267 services include psychologist, speech, educational strategist, and media.
Accreditation:
Immaculate Conception-St. Joseph is accredited by the State of Iowa and provides a developmentally appropriate academic curriculum approved by the Archdiocese of Dubuque.
Community
Immaculate Conception parish has 775 registered families; St. Joseph parish has 224 registered families. 45% of each parishs income is used to support the elementary school.
Consolidated local school board
The Home School Association, a parent support group has won the NCEA award for parent groups in 2000; coordinates a strong volunteer program; is responsible for parent involvement activities, and various fund raising events, like WinterFest, a family carnival the first Sunday in February.
The Endowment Fund begun in November, 1995, has accumulated over $100,000.
The SCRIP program of gift certificates gives contributions to the school from area businesses and allows families to earn tuition credit equal to 1% of their gross purchases.
Tuition:
Immaculate Conception /St. Joseph Parish Member Tuition: $1275/child/year for 2004-2005
Catholic non-parish member: $2,725 /child/year for 2004-2005.
Non-Catholic: $2,925 /child/year for 2004-2005
Tuition assistance is applied for through Private School Aid Service (Application deadline is April 15);
The two parishes provide the funds for tuition assistance to students with financial need
Co-Curricular: Activities in music, instrumental band, art, student council, and service opportunities are available
Athletics: Immaculate Conception-St. Joseph middle school students (6-8) compete in the Metropolitan Parochial Athletic League in available sports: volleyball, football, wrestling, basketball, softball, and baseball.
Support Services:
The ABC Program(After and Before Care) offers school-age child care on days school is in session

Support groups through the school counselor
