What is the Booster Club and what do we do?
The Booster Club is a fund raising and activity organizing body for Don Bosco Central Catholic High School, subject to the policies and regulations that proceed from the Archdiocesan Board of Education, the Archdiocesan Office of Education, and the Don Bosco Central Catholic High School Board of Education.

The club provides financial assistance to the athletic and extra-curricular activity programs for Don Bosco Central Catholic High School, including: Softball, Baseball, Volleyball, Wrestling, Girl's and Boy's Basketball, Girl's and Boy's Golf, Cheerleading, Music, Speech, and Drama. The Booster Club also supports the Football program, although the Football program financially stands on its own at this time.

The Booster Club promotes high standards of sportsmanship and equal opportunity to all students to participate in athletic and extra-curricular activities. The club consists of 6 committees: Concessions, Merchandise, Fund Raising, Finance, Advertising, and Pep Club.

The club is responsible for long term planning, goal setting, and implementation of programs and policies to ensure that coaches and students that participate in extra-curricular activities have appropriate funding to allow them to compete and participate at a competitive level. Without the efforts of the Booster Club, many of the "wants and needs" for these programs would not be available. Our goal is to support these programs and generate funds necessary to continue to ensure that our coaches and students can participate and compete at a competitive level.

Our Booster Club president for 2007-2008 is Trina Becker. For more information go to www.boscosystem.net .

Booster Club Requests
Do you need the Booster Club to help you out with something?

The Booster Club supports the extra-curricular activities at Don Bosco High School including: softball, baseball, volleyball, football (as needed) basketball, wrestling, track, golf, cheerleading, band, speech, and drama. Our mission is to provide the items necessary for our students to participate at a competitive level.

To make a request for any of the groups listed above, please contact us with your request and all pertinent information. Contact the Booster Club president to be added to the agenda. The Booster Club meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm in the DB library.
  1. First of all, at the beginning of each school year, the Booster Club asks all coaches and activity directors to plan for the upcoming year (this is usually done in August or September) so we can plan our budget and determine what projects to work on for the year.
  2. Anyone with requests should submit those requests in writing along with all the details in August so we have the information to review at our planning meeting.
  3. By September or October, the Booster Club determines the projects we want to proceed with for the upcoming year. This information is submitted to the school board for approval. Upon approval, we proceed with our budget for the year and begin implementing these projects.
  4. When large projects are brought to our attention in the middle of the year, our funds are already spoken for based on the projects set forth in the beginning of the year. We will always consider anything that is requested of the Booster Club, however, based on budgets some projects requested mid-year may have to be put on hold until next year when we do budgets again.
Again, the Booster Club is a fund-raising organization for all sports and extra-curricular activities at Don Bosco. We support ALL students within Don Bosco. The club is responsible for long term planning, goal setting, and implementation of programs and policies to ensure extra-curricular activities have sufficient funds to be able to compete at a competitive level. We have to plan ahead and budget our funds in order to be efficient and effective.

Thank you for your understanding and your support in all Booster Club projects and events!

BOSCO SYSTEM PARTNERS WITH THE POSITIVE COACHING ALLIANCE

The Bosco System has partnered with The Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) Partners Program. The purpose of the Positive Coaching Alliance is to provide live, research-based training workshops and practical tools for coaches, parents, and leaders who operate youth sports programs.

PCA believes that winning is a goal in youth sports but that there is also a second, equally important goal of using sports to teach life lessons through positive coaching. PCA provides the framework to get every coach, parent, and fan 'on the same page' about what it means to Honor the Game and to ensure every student has a positive, educational experience. For more information on PCA, visit their website at www.positivecoach.org .

Coaches, teachers, extra-curricular activity directors, parents and other students are all "coaches". We all need to remember the three principles of Positive Coaching:

1. Honoring the Game
Honoring the Game…gets to the ROOTS of positive play.
Rules – we refuse to bend the rules to win
Opponents – a worthy opponent is a gift that brings out our best
Officials – show respect even when we disagree
Teammates – never do anything to embarrass our team
Self – we live up to our own standards even when others don't

2. Redefining Winner
A Positive Coach helps players redefine what it means to be a "winner" by emphasizing the ELM Tree of Mastery – where ELM stands for Effort, Learning and bouncing back from Mistakes.

3. Filling Emotional Tanks
A Positive Coach fills players "emotional tanks" with encouragement and praise, recognizing that players need full tanks to play their best. A Positive Coach strives to achieve the 5:1 "magic ratio" – 5 praises for every 1 criticism.

Help us help each other remember to Honor the Game! Thank you for your support!
