Music Department

The Instrumental Music Department has been busy with the fall 2008 Marching Season. This years' marching show consists of "Pirates of The Caribbean", percussion feature - "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" and the closer "The Lord Of The Rings" Part 1. The band has performed this show at four home football games, as well as at the U. N. I. Homecoming Festival. The marching band also marched in the Wartburg College Homecoming Parade. At the home football game on Friday, October 26, the band proudly displayed their new marching band uniforms. This is a great addition to the marching band show. The final home game on Friday, October 17th, is Band Night and will honor the seniors in the marching band and color guard.

The Percussion Ensembles will soon begin their rehearsals and performances for the year. This year, there will be two percussion ensembles due to the number of students wanting to participate. When performing at State Contests, the limit you can have in a group is 16, so we have split our 23 students into two groups. These groups will perform on their own as well as perform a couple of pieces together on a couple of concerts this year. Don Bosco has again been chosen to host not only one contest, but two this year. We will be hosting the State 1A Solo and Small Group Contest again on Saturday, April 18th with 10 schools from the area scheduled to be in attendance. For the first time, Don Bosco will be hosting the Northeast Iowa Bandmasters Association Middle School Contest on Saturday, March 28th. At least 5 schools will be in attendance at this contest. Many volunteers are needed to help at both contests. At future Music Support Group meetings more information will be discussed.

Thursday, November 6th - 6:00p.m.
Thursday, January 22nd - 6:00p.m.
Thursday, February 19th - 6:00p.m.
Thursday, March 26th - 6:00p.m.
Thursday, April 16th - 6:00p.m.

It is hoped that as many parents can come to these meetings to help support the music department.
