Profile Sheet: 2005-2006
Description: Don Bosco High School is a coeducational Catholic institution serving the corporate parish communities of Immaculate Conception, Gilbertville; St. Joseph, Raymond; St. Athanasius, Jesup; Sacred Heart, LaPorte City; St. Francis, Barclay; and St. Mary of Mt. Carmel, Eagle Center. DBHS also accepts students from the wider surrounding area. Both Catholic and non Catholic students are enrolled in grades nine through twelve.
Mission: Don Bosco Central High School, a Catholic School, in partnership with the students, parents and community will provide a challenging environment to develop intellectual, social, physical and creative abilities while fostering spiritual and emotional growth so that all students can successfully meet the demands of a changing global society.
Students:
- Enrollment total 165 students
- Faculty/student ratio is 1/10
- Students participate in and help to plan liturgical celebrations
- Daily hot lunch program available
- Students have a dress code
- Bus service available in the Waterloo School District attendance area through First Student; two bus routes for those not in the Waterloo district
- Have many computers in the library and classrooms with internet access
Faculty and Staff:
- Total 17 certified teachers, all holding at least B.A. or B. S. degrees; 3 hold M.A. degrees
- Spiritual Director
- Guidance counselor
- Development Director shared with Immaculate Conception/St. Joseph School
- Area Education Agency 7 services include psychologist, speech therapist, educational strategist, and media material
Accreditation: Don Bosco High School is accredited by the State of Iowa.
Community:
- Bosco System Board of Education meets each month, except July
- Booster Club and Music Parent groups raise funds for the school
- The Endowment Fund will contribute $65,000 of interest to the general budget
Tuition:
- Corporate Parish Member Tuition: $2,150.00
- Non Catholic and Non Corporate Parish Member Tuition: $3,225.00
- Tuition assistance is applied for through Private School Aid Service (Application deadline is April 15)
- The parishes provide the funds for tuition assistance to students with financial need
Co-Curricular:
Activities in chorus, band, student council, National Honor Society, drama, International Thespian Society, and yearbook opportunities are available
Athletics:
- Don Bosco is a member of the Iowa Star Conference, Iowa High School Athletic Association, and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union
- Sports available: football, volleyball, cross country, basketball, wrestling, golf, track, tennis, soccer, baseball, and softball
